Long-distance chess with family and friends

Play chess with a friend, a parent, or a grandparent in another city or country without sitting down at the same time. LinkChess is free. Each of you gets a private board link by email, and you move when it is your turn. You play in your web browser.

How to start

  1. Sign in with your email. LinkChess sends a link you click. That sign-in is for creating a game or opening your list of games.
  2. Create the game and enter the other player's email. You play White. LinkChess emails each player a private chessboard link.
  3. They open their link. The board appears, and they move from that link. They do not need an account, and they do not do a magic sign-in.
  4. When it is your turn, LinkChess emails a notice. Open your own link, or play from the signed-in game list.

You can also send a text message from the game page. The other person gets an email, so you can write back and forth or remind them it is their move.

A separate link for each player

Each player gets a private chessboard link. Do not share yours. Anyone who has it plays as you. The other player cannot see your link from theirs.

How long the game stays

Games, moves, messages, and mail are deleted after 60 days. The lifetime game count and Elo rating for each email are kept.
